Proterra orders 57 Veefil-RT chargers

  • First public transport order manufactured at Tritium’s US facility in Torrance, California


Brisbane, Australia 05 March 2018: Proterra, the US manufacturer of the world’s best performing zero-emission buses, has placed an order with Tritium for 57 Veefil-RT DC 50kW fast chargers. The chargers are the first for the public transport sector to be manufactured at
the company’s recently opened sales and manufacturing facility in Torrance, California and will be available to Proterra customers across the US. 


“We aim to partner with like-minded companies,” explains Matt Horton, Chief Commercial Officer at Proterra. “Proterra needed to resource a reliable, standards-based J1772 CCS plug-in charger for our Catalyst® range of energy-efficient buses and were looking for a
supplier with a similarly innovative approach to technology with the capability to tailor their product to our specifications.”


 After a trial of the Veefil-RT, Tritium worked closely with the Proterra team to provide a series of modifications to the software to meet the company’s requirements. 


Greg Lary, who heads up Tritium in the US, comments: “Proterra wanted to partner with a company that not only had the capability to provide technologically-advanced chargers that matched their own market-leading vehicles, they also needed a relationship with a supplier who could support them as they expand and develop in this dynamic transportation market.

The Veefil DC Range of Fast Chargers
In May 2013, Tritium launched an award-winning, 50kW DC fast charger for electric vehicles – the Veefil-RT - which is already recognised internationally as being the most technologically advanced in its class. Tritium is the only Australian company to design and manufacture EV fast charging stations and its Veefil units are now being installed globally on major charging networks and fast-charging highways. They are currently operational in 22 countries. In October 2016 the company launched two new products, creating a range of Veefil units that gives customers increased options to provide a charging service for vehicles that are privately owned and those employed in the business sector.


Why Veefil® technology is the most technologically advanced in its class
The Veefil range comprises the world’s most technologically-advanced fast charger for all EVs, supporting CHAdeMO & CCS/SAE-Combo standards. 


All the products share a number of unique features:

  • Liquid-cooled, functioning in -35° C to +50° C (-31° F to +122° F). This makes Veefil products more robust than other chargers, over a wide range of environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity and corrosive conditions - increasing reliability and reducing maintenance.
  • Veefil products have the smallest footprint and are at least half the weight of most other EV fast chargers, increasing location options and reducing shipping and installation costs. The Veefil-RT 50kW DC fast charger and the Veefil-WP 12kW DC fast charger both fit neatly at the end of a standard parking bay within existing infrastructure.
